Workforce accountability made easy

Demand for dash cam recording devices in the mining industry is rising as contractors look towards enforcing workforce accountability and improving operator training on site.

This can be witnessed with the growth in mining automation and increased usage of dash cameras in automotive industry. According to BCC Research, mining automation market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 25.6% to USD 19.6 billion by 2023.

Dash cameras are finding increased usage in the automotive industry and its applicability has gained popularity in mining industry as well. Various industry analysts have forecast the global automotive dash cam market to grow between 12-19% CAGR in the next 5 years.

It is a well-known fact that one of the biggest hazards in mining are vehicles – simply due to the sheer size of them and the harsh environment in which they operate.

“By equipping these vehicles with a dash cam, the end-user is able to not only keep operators accountable for their behaviour behind the wheel, but also utilise the footage for training purposes going forward,” said RCT’s Dealer and Product Management, Andrew Sells.

RCT’s AusProTec™ Compact 2 Camera DVR Recorder is designed to assist with in-cab and forward monitoring on mobile equipment, however, it is specifically designed to be robust enough to withstand the mining industry.

“While it operates very similar to other dash cams available on the market, its biggest point of difference is that it will be tough enough to last and even has a custom made bracket that can’t be tampered with,” said Mr Sells.

The versatile camera offers multiple day recording, it will not record over events and it will also store events in a separate area for review.

Footage can easily be viewed on a desktop viewer and can show over speed, events, driving route, speed time, location and GPS tracking via the Google Maps interface.

This footage can be used to showcase examples to facilitate future operator training.

“Visual learning is a great tool to make improvements to operations which in turn ensures operators carry out day-to-day operations in an efficient manner.”

In addition to being built tough and a long recording time, these cameras are also easy to install.

“It is as simple as mounting it on the dash and away you go,” he said.

“This means there is minimal downtime and anyone can do it which basically eliminates costs associated with installation.”

However, what sets these dash cams apart from others available on the market is the 3D printed resin enclosure that wraps around the device and kept in place with the security screws which prevents the removal and defacing on the SD cards.

“These enclosures were developed by RCT in response to customer demand and they have been really well received,” said Sells.

“A few mine sites utilising these cameras came to us for a security enclosure as they were having issues with operators removing the SD cards following an incident.”

RCT’s AusProTec™ Compact 2 Camera DVR Recorder is an economical, all-in-one solution for driver management, event recording, machine monitoring and training.

“These mining-specific cameras are gaining in momentum and popularity with the ever increasing focus on safety and driver behavioural habits, allowing end-users to provide guidance in a more productive manner.”

The AusProTec™ Compact 2 Camera DVR Recorder comes with RCT support and a standard 12-month warranty.
