The Product Compliance Officer supports the business by coordinating, tracking, and maintaining compliance documentation, shipment controls, and compliance records to ensure products are shipped to global markets efficiently, accurately, and in alignment with approved certification.
The role has primary responsibility for shipment‑level compliance, including verification that products are shipped with the correct certification IDs, regulatory labels, and user manuals applicable to the approved product configuration and destination market.
The role focuses on compliance execution and governance support, based on compliance strategies and technical decisions defined by the Compliance and Hardware Engineering functions.
Key Scope Clarification
This role does not define compliance strategy, interpret regulatory requirements independently, or approve technical compliance decisions.
All technical interpretations, certification strategies, and risk acceptance decisions are owned and approved by Engineering.
Key Responsibilities
Shipment‑Level Compliance & Labelling Control
- Own verification that products released for shipment are compliant with applicable regulatory requirements for the destination market
- Ensure correct FCC IDs, regulatory marks, and approval references are applied to product labels based on the approved product configuration
- Verify that radio modules installed in shipped products match certified configurations, including when components are substituted or reach end‑of‑life
- Ensure user manuals and regulatory statements reference:
- Correct standards
- Correct certification numbers
- Current approvals applicable to the shipped configuration
- Maintain configuration‑to‑certification traceability to prevent shipment of incorrectly labelled or documented products
- Stop, hold, or escalate shipments where labelling, documentation, or certification alignment cannot be confirmed, including time critical or customer committed shipments
Any ambiguity regarding applicable standards, FCC ID applicability, module substitution impact, or certification scope shall be escalated to Engineering for determination prior to shipment.
Supplier & Third‑Party Liaison
- Request and manage third‑party compliance documentation from suppliers
- Verify supplier documentation completeness and accuracy, and escalate gaps or discrepancies to Product Management and Compliance Engineering prior to shipment approval
- Maintain a repository of supplier declarations and certificates
Configuration & Variant Control
- Identify products where a single part number may be associated with multiple certified configurations (e.g. alternate radio modules)
- Ensure shipment documentation, labels, and user manuals correctly reflect the actual installed radio configuration
- Maintain configuration‑to‑certification traceability where component substitutions or alternates are permitted
- Escalate to Engineering where part numbering, configuration identification, or certification applicability is unclear
Compliance Coordination & Documentation
- Coordinate the collection, organisation, and maintenance of compliance documentation for new and existing products
- Support the creation and upkeep of Technical Construction Files (TCFs) based on inputs from Compliance Engineering
- Maintain accurate, complete, and audit‑ready records of certifications, approvals, and declarations across global markets, including historical data where required
- Track compliance status, expiry dates, and required renewals
Policy & Awareness Support
- Assist in implementing internal compliance procedures and approval workflows defined by Compliance Engineering
- Help ensure compliance procedures are consistently applied across teams
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, Procurement, and Custom teams to ensure compliance documentation aligns with approved product configurations and target markets
- Escalate technical compliance questions, ambiguities, or exceptions to Compliance Engineering for resolution
Explicit Exclusions
The Product Compliance Officer does not:
- Interpret regulatory standards independently
- Define certification scope or test strategies
- Approve design decisions for compliance
- Approve technical compliance testing
- Accept or mitigate compliance risk without engineering approval
