RCT expands autonomous fleet at steel refinery

News

World-leading autonomous solutions specialist RCT has finalised its latest automation project for major steel-making company POSCO at one of its steel refineries in South Korea.

RCT recently worked with its technology partner Haein Corporation to supply and commission the company’s ControlMaster® Line-of-Sight solution onto one CAT D9T dozer.

RCT also supplied a portable two-camera vision system placed at strategic locations on the dozer feeding to a monitor on the Line-of-Sight remote.

The dozer was commissioned at POSCO’s smelter and refinery in Pohang and will be used to safely manage molten steel waste products produced as a result of the refining process.

The ControlMaster® solution enables local machine operators to stand at a safe distance and access the machine’s full range of functions with the Line-of-Sight remote.

The CAT D9T is the third machine of its kind to be commissioned with the ControlMaster® automation solution at the Pohang refinery.

RCT Account Manager Shane Smith said the solution is a safe and reliable option for site personnel.

“The refinery’s work zone can experience extremely high temperatures so it is essential that machine operators remove themselves from the area while also accessing the dozer’s full range of functions,” he said.

“ControlMaster® has a proven history of working effectively in these very harsh environments.”

“Going forward Haein Corporation will provide on-ground technical assistance to staff at Pohang backed up by RCT’s own Customer Service support.”
